To join the prestigious Committee pink thunder-shaped room please report to the "Education Committee" forum (on our forums page) at your earliest convenience. Pardon the smell of fresh paint and feel free to join the discussion and start leveraging your training efforts 1000:1 !
(Remember this is the blog page and comments posted below will be public...)
2010-11-01 21:32:46 (7456 views) A Committee Submissions and Outreach forum was created.
The Committee may at some point review the most worthwhile proposals for inclusion.
This forum is open to ALL. Remember the Committee will mostly decide course contents and propaedeutic methods; anything else including presentation, delivery, drills, technology and artwork is up for discussion by anyone, and the new forum can be used for this purpose as well.
2010-10-31 10:27:37 (6383 views) Already 3 members tentatively on board. The ladies are seriously starting to take charge of innovation here with electrode advice, connection tests and bug reports, and by joining the prestigious DreamLover Education Committee!
For those of you who might still be hesitant, based on previous questions we give you some more needed information.
1. There is no minimum time commitment. Leave any time you wish no reasons necessary.
2. We understand people are busy and are only able to contribute when time allows it.
3. Additionally the forum will be female-only and private (e-mail hidden) so do not worry about privacy, you will not be public or get tons of emails.
4. We can also do this 1 to 1 by email if you prefer
5. Don't worry about your opinion being too "personal", other users' are personal too and that's one more reason to jump in and give your feedback, plus it's valuable to us and where opinions differ we will extrapolate with complex male management theoretical models (=average it all out) or have those choices customizable
Remember: you will instruct thousands of males! If you ever meet your Dream Lover, he may just be someone who's taken your course! :)
2010-10-31 01:53:03 (7544 views) FIRST UPLINK TEST CONCLUDED
Yesterday (today, depending on your time zone) we had the first 10 online users.
Our user "Aggie" officially became the first earth female to enter a Male Management screen (and the first person in general since the boys were still trying to figure out the one time password). That's why we need those courses ASAP ladies :)
Just kidding, you were all awesome with the level of tech reporting and we've fixed compatibility with a few .NET versions too.
Server's holding up pretty good too, but it's a bit hard to figure out since the CPU usage has spikes and we can only see infrequent updates from cpanel.
If you are among yesterday's downloaders the test is over, thanks for staying connected and feel free to disconnect or shut down the application now if you want. Use it at will, won't hurt!
The next step is to get even more people online and for people who have web enabled mobile phones to try the management screen and check it for compatibility.
The download link below will be open for a few hours (depending on server load). We will remove the link if we have to step out (about 5 hours from now, probably) or when CPU consumption reaches worrying levels.
We're just trying to avoid the host shutting down everything including the blog - if it happens don't worry... we just have to tell them we've disabled the pings and they'll reactivate us, then we'll reduce ping frequency or get another server.
For those who download, no requirement to stay online but if you can stay on it helps us diagnose server load incrementally.
FOR MAC USERS:
Uplink only works with Windows as you know but you can try to install it on a Win PC and use the remote web interface from a Mac if you wish (sometimes browsers act a bit differently)
FOR MOBILE USERS:
If you're a mobile phone user (= you own a mobile phone and want to use the management screen on it) and you read this after we've already closed today's test session mail us, we'll give you an alternate download link.
You don't technically need the Uplink to test remote management but for privacy reasons this is best done by managing your own account.
We recommend downloading the DL Uplink and testing the admin screen through the web on your PC first, then when you know how to use it, try it out on your cell phone.
It's not that difficult really, you get a one time password (per connection) from the application and punch that into the management screen.
The one time password may be a bit long to punch in on your cell so you can email it to yourself (it's supposed to uniquely identify a user that's why it's got to be reasonably long). It's only used for demo mode, when you have a device then ownership and permissions take over.
If you get to the "Management" screen, click "set device to known state" and get a report back (shown on the log, right side) then all's working just fine.

Use your blog username and password
HOW TO TEST
- Extract archive into any directory
- Start application
- Play with device management
- Click connect, again use your blog user/pass
- Open web browser to the URL above
- Login with the same user/pass
- Enter one time password (logo on top right takes you Home, if you wander through the other settings pages)
- That will open the management screen
- Send commands, they will appear on the Uplink app
- Most commands are one-way only. "Set to known state" is bidirectional, if you get a report back all's working fine.
ANY PROBLEMS
- tell us what you're connecting with and what exactly happens, and we'll try to fix this to work on your platform if possible
2010-10-30 08:46:34 (6247 views) We've filled the slots. Next step is to stress test the server. Following that we'll open up downloads for everyone.
We have polished up the DL Uplink application and it seems to be working fine through our main server.
You are able to log in without a DL2K-LINK in demo mode, and try the male management back-end as well as the device configuration interface.
Because we don't know how much server load this will create, and our host has quotas for processes, threads, memory and CPU we're first of all opening up download to 10 users to gauge how much server load per user will be generated (and see if we need a separate server for this or not).
If you want to try this out, please write us an e-mail (info at) stating your forums/blog username (password is not necessary). 10 users, first come first served.
The first 10 downloaders are kindly asked, when they finish playing around with the application's features, to click "connect" and remain connected to the internet for 24 hours or so, in order to assess server load.
If you can't keep this running for at least 24 hours please wait a bit until we finish this test.
After this test we will open up download for everyone.
As you know, this is a Windows only download.
2010-10-30 02:46:58 (5984 views) There's a Chinese proverb that says "8 and 9 aren't much different from 10". Well, that pretty much sums up how closely manufacturers will follow the specs here.
Our batteries vendors probably think that that being the case, 2 ain't terribly far off from 6 either, and so the batteries we've just received that were supposed to be taken to the lab have a cable that's too short and can't fit inside the receiver. That is after they made a pretty 3D diagram and got our sign off on it and the money.
Trying to negotiate with the lab whether we can remove the heat shrink to lengthen the cable sufficiently because that would expose the terminals (3.6V, no big deal, but you never know what the rules might be).
If we can do it we're ready for testing otherwise... one more round of batteries.
Even with connectors supplied by us these guys managed to take 2 weeks to make the batteries, then send them with wrong information so that they were sent back, then finally deliver them to us with wrong cable length, wrong cable color, and no company mark as they had promised.
Realistically we're going to have to move all manufacturing except for the plastic and rubber parts away from China at some point, because when we leave there's no way to keep the house standing. They will screw up everything. They don't care about the relationship, don't care about the order, even the money. Just don't care at all. Whatevah. Bah. Batteries. There. 2mm. 6mm. Same. Next.
On the positive side the components with the biggest lead times are on the way.
No reason to be alarmed. It's China as usual.
