2010-05-18 10:58:13 (4422 views) The "rotated antenna" mod to these RF modules greatly extends their range.
A few days ago we had a problem and the thing didn't even work 5 meters away. But passion and perfectionism win! Now the signal can reach the other side of a pond about 100 meters away.
We've destroyed a few modules already by resoldering the tiny chip antenna tens of times to test range, and dropping the PCB accidentally (not a good idea to let it land on the chip antenna soldered on only one side!!!)
As you know we're now working on a new board to try to avoid this strange resoldering process.
(We were able to shoot a video of what you see above but it's so dark and shaky that it's not worth posting!)
