David just stopped by on his way home from the Canton Fair with his new molded rubber strips which nobody asked him to make or is paying for!
These are better because they are thinner and more flexible than the old ones, they are also lighter... and they can be fastened easily and tightly.
However the resistance is not very homogeneous! He said it's because he mixed materials by hand and in the final production stage they would be machine mixed and this problem wouldn't arise. Also they started breaking after pulling a little bit but he said that won't be a problem or something along those lines. What he wanted to show here is that the cable attachment to the rubber part can be made very strong by molding. He definitely proved that, the strips will break before the cable comes out.
Will we use these things? Not clear how useful they will be, plus our soldering equipment is at Mr Tang's factory right now so we have no way to test these. We'll test them sometimes and report the results. It's possible we may just sell them on our site since anything of this sort (but less advanced, with no cable overmolding) in the west costs quite a bit.
Also. Looking at these things the cable is not made of any special material but it sticks to the overmolded silicone part. WHAT???? What does this guy know?
Immediately we put David on the phone with Mr Tang directly, fortunately they speak the same dialect. Out of this came some ideas on rubber and cables but they aren't useful right now because the problem has already been solved. After the call David also gave us some tips on how to eliminate the breakage problem.
We're putting together a real DreamLover think tank! Unreal...
MAGNETS
The new neodymium magnets also arrived today; they are 1.5cm in radius and 2mm thick. Can't see why these couldn't be used to secure metallic parts through a CB6000 with no hole. However, they won't be tamper proof at all... to resist to moderate strength pulling they would need to be quite big, and also possibly dangerous to your fingers. So see this as a way for compliant males to enter training willfully.
This will be a busy weekend.
Tomorrow: visit to the rubber factory.
Sunday: Canton fair report.
