Seeking feedback from Mac users who have successfully installed and used the DL2K-LINK under Parallels.

Can you please let us know by email or below, which version of Parallels and Mac OS you are using. We're working on a weird issue seen on just one machine and trying to proceed by exclusion.

Hi Dreamlover Universe.

I have recently purchased a Mac, and I've been testing options for a while. For many of my old windows apps, I have successfully got them operating under wine. However, I have not been so lucky yet with DL products.

So, then onto other ideas. What to choose. There are two main options for virtualisation on Mac products that will support windows environments. Parallels and VMware Fusion. I liked the idea of supporting Parallels instead of VMware - since this company also supports the open source community with a lot of their work. As well as running windows, I also wanted to run some obscure operating systems. I knew my OS works under VMware, so I contacted parallels to ask if my OS would be supported. The answer was no.

After hearing that answer, I downloaded and installed a copy of VMware Fusion. I tried doing a P2V of my old laptop, but it failed. The first attempt was over wireless. I'll put that down to my old wireless access point.

Next attempt; I ordered a physical ethernet interface for the laptop. My physical conversion of my old windows laptop was successful! It actually ran better than I thought it would run to be honest. There are many obscure hardware specific drivers in my old laptop that I was expecting to cause me grief on first boot under vmware - but it all went smoothly.

Next test; Do DL2K products work under fusion? I tried Chronovault first. I connected the device, and VMware popped up a box asking if I want to connect it to windows or my Mac operating system. Good progress. I selected Windows... and windows started doing some driver install magic. Woo hoo! I repeated this with a DL2K usb interface. Same story. The software was able to talk to both devices successfully.

I will work with the DL people to do more exhaustive tests to confirm the stability of both devices under VMware Fusion - but at the moment, it looks promising.

Update on my mac testing:

Bad news. No luck under vmware fusion. When I did my initial testing, I was just looking for the lights on the usb stick and receiver. However, it is not operating fully as expected.

If you only use Chronovault, it works perfectly under VMware... but if you want to use a DL2K, it might be worthwhile using bootcamp instead.

NOTE: I have not tested bootcamp yet... but in general terms, this is basically running windows natively on your PC with a boot menu, so it SHOULD work without any pain. (Except for that which comes from your keyholder's terminal).

What was the symptom on DL/2000 problems using a MAC? I was able to see the USB stick transmit light just fine; however, on the unit itself the LED signaled RED indicating a bad packet. At the same time I ran into a low battery on the receiver so I assumed the low battery was the cause. (I need to order the new battery so haven't done further testing at the moment.)

You have to bootcamp on a mac. Otherwise the DL2K-LINK will appear to work but packets won't be received properly.
