Clue 4 hint 3

2011-10-01 23:03:23 (7220 views)

A certain person surely knew the key to decoding clue #4; unfortunately though, he has taken it to his grave long ago!

Perhaps we can take a trip through Lombardy, to try to find out more about this key figure. Here's your ticket.

Translation into German:
Der Leib, von dem sie durch Gewalt geschieden
Liegt in Ciel d’Oro, und sie kam aus Gefahr
Und Bann und Märtyrtum zu diesem Frieden

In English it schould be sth like this:
The body of whom separated by force
Lies in Ciel d'Oro, and she came out of danger
and ban and martyrdom to this peace

This is out of the 10th song of paradise of Dante Alighieris Divine comedy.
And stands in connection with the church of Pavia (as seen on the boarding pass). I cannot make any connections though, except for separating sth by brutal force... ouch

The body whence 'twas hunted forth is lying
Down in Cieldauro, and from martyrdom
And banishment it came unto this peace.

As far as I can see the text is a quote from Dante's Il Paradiso, part of The Divine Comendy and translates to:

The body whence it was chased forth, lieth down below in the sky of gold and itself from martyrdom and exile came unto this peace.

Lots of interesting words but I'm still no closer to knowing what its all about. I have far too scientific a mind to understand poetry, especially from about seven seven centuries ago and maybe a poor translation of the original language.

Yup...yawn.. I will guess it is like the movie national treasure matter how many clues you figure out it just leads to another clue and so on and so forth zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz/

It is a motorized torque wrench for tightening the helical nuts on rectabular extrusions.

You want to announce. We want to hear what it is. We give up. If you want us to say we are all dummies and you are so clever then yes I agree. You have thrown in so very many red herrings that this is getting silly. You stress that is a code, well there are many types of code from simple cypher through public key cryptography, so many that none of us has time (or spare computing power) to be bothered to analyse all the poor handwriting in reverse italics which would be needed as input to the analysis. The clue of the music could be the name of he piece, the rhythm, the letters of the notes on the musical scale, a certain not like the third of each bar of the one after a rest etc, the combinations are endless. The USB port does not even look like a USB port, there is a step in the side of it not present on either ends of the USB devices on any of modern computers, nor any other of the connectors of my ancient computers spread over nearly fifty years age range. You would not even give us any indication of the scale of the gears. We could spend years trying to work it out. Why wait, JUST TELL US!

By all means, please announce. The first clues led me to belive that this was a remote locking device: gears and usb port would fit, and then came the romote, extremely "secure" location pics. Was thrown by the music, but when you mentioned Lombardy, a quick Google search of "Lombardy, Itally and padlocks" brought up this link: http://blog.travelpod.com/travel-photo/joebella44/7/1307641280/padlocks-left-by-lovers.jpg/tpod.html.
I think it is a computer controlled locking device. If not, please put this idea into your R&D queue.
If so, please explain the music.

Wimp!

I believe the clue is a reference to the medieval philosopher Boethius, who is entombed in San Pietro in Ciel d'Oro, Pavia (thanks to MrAnybody). According to wikipedia, Boethius' great work was the "Consolation of Philosophy". To quote from wikipedia[1]:

"This work is cast as a dialogue between Boethius himself, at first bitter and despairing over his imprisonment, and the spirit of philosophy, depicted as a woman of wisdom and compassion. 'Alternately composed in prose and verse, the Consolation teaches acceptance of hardship in a spirit of philosophical detachment from misfortune."

Boethius also composed music:

"In his "De Musica", Boethius introduced the fourfold classification of music:
- Musica mundana — music of the spheres/world
- Musica humana — harmony of human body and spiritual harmony
- Musica instrumentalis — instrumental music (incl. human voice)
- Musica divina — music of the gods"

Perhaps the name of the new product is "The Wheel of Fortune," which Boethius, through the "Consolation of Philosophy," is credited with having made a popular concept in medieval times. Here is a picture of Boethius' wheel of fortune, observed (or controlled?) by Lady Philosophy [1].

So perhaps the device is a motorized wheel or a clock of some kind, perhaps not even for use on the body.
