MANUAL

The user guide turned out to be 50 A6 pages long using very small fonts (essentially it's 50 A4 pages scaled down in size). It covers everything from ESD protection, how to plug and unplug the batteries, waterproofing tests, mounting, a quick-start guide, a comprehensive safety guide, and a guide to all features and DL Uplink screens; plus, the web functions.

We're trying to find a local supplier to produce the manual which involves cutting, stapling and machine folding, and to print and duplicate the driver disk. We also have labels we need to produce.

PACKAGING

There is a surprise coming up for the packaging. Pictures will likely be posted before the weekend.

NEW MINI-FEATURE

We've added a "safe mode" to the remote control. A key sequence allows you to disable the tools key (previously the beta key) which is used to enter advanced modes (leash, canine etc). The remote control ships in safe mode and you can disable it when you've become familiar with turning it on and off and so forth. You can also restore safe mode if you are going to lend the remote to a beginning user.

MANUFACTURING BEGINS

Tomorrow is a big day, we're on the spot to aid the manufacturer with the first real production run of arousal inducers. Other plastic and rubber parts are very easy to produce in comparison and will be handled by the manufacturer independently. The inducers are tricky to put together - it's a multi-step process. So we have to make absolutely sure the guys here learn how to do it right and without too much waste.

Does this mean all the information needed to determine pricing has been discovered? If so, will pricing info be forthcoming?

It'd be nice to know if this is going to be affordable or not.

Don't be silly.. Pricing won't be available until they have it made and ready to be sold.

Unfortunately, this will probably cause them to not be able to sell any and the company will go under. Hopefully they will give the customers enough "lead time" to allow them to save up for it.

Don't be silly. If they go under with no sales, the accountant appointed to close things up will sell them devices off cheap :)

Seriously folks this is getting very silly. It does mean that the price is either going to be so high you are scared to tell us, or you don't know. Given that you are startiung to manufacture the second means the company ...

So price please?
By electrodick at 2010-12-21 06:00:14 Reply
Perhaps there will be a payment plan. Buy it now and pay later when the price is determined. If you don't agree to the price, the leash mode will be operated from head office reminding you that payment is required.

If payment is not made, someone will 'pay' until the cash is transfered.

With differing time zones from one end of the world to the other, we will al be waking up with reminders....

So, be careful about with whom you leave your key!

I would think by now they will know a an absolute minimum price, but after manufacture units need to be tested and possibly re-worked, and only then will they know the failure rate. Many years ago I designed an interface card which had about 30 integrated circuits and our first batch of 250 cards had a 90% failure rate - yes only 10% worked! We had gone straight from wire wrap prototype to production PCB amd not allowed for cross-talk between signals. We did manage to re-work most of the boards with a couple of patch wires and eventually got the first batch failure rate down to about 15%, but it just goes to show why you cannot give firm pricing this early. Of course they will also have to factor in technical support costs and items which fail in the one year warranty period in Europe and the 90 day period in America, so you can expect US prices to be cheaper too. Some electronics companies test their products for 100 hours before shipping because most failure happen in the first 100 hours. Then there is the problem of false claims, iPhones/iPods now come with moisture sensors because users were returning them swearing they had not got wet when they in fact they had. I worry a bit about the DL2000 because it relies on users sealing it and some users may not be too careful in the initial rush to try it out, and may later say they did it correctly when they make their warranty claims.

Maybe a moisture check device could be incorporated even at this late stage. Maybe a later version could use re-chargeable batteries with a transformer secondary in a factory sealed unit with the primary in a charging unit, which maybe could be worn in bed at night next to the device, but more FCC / EC approval issue means it certainly is not an option for the first model.

Why print it? Just include a PDF on a CD.
It seems to me that (at least) most of the folk with a link have a computer.

In fact, I'd be willing to pay (say) $10 now for a PDF of the manual.
[I suspect enough others are also that it could start SOME cash flow]
