Second and final compliance test passed!!!

2010-11-23 05:37:22 (7346 views)

HARD WORK is what it's taking to make this product a reality!
Today we celebrate...

The DL2000 has officially passed all regulatory testing for the US and EU and now has the "CE" conformity mark!

So, does that mean we are closer to a time line? Assuming that, we must be getting close to a price point? I am sure there are many of us waiting on the edge....

Congratulations!
It's very interesting to see all the steps to bring an electronic product to market. By the time you do all the testing, how much does the regulatory side come to (approximately). Was it hundreds, thousands?
By dreamloverlabs at 2010-11-23 07:34:55 Reply
It's cheaper to do this in Asia, but it's still thousands between EMC and safety.
By Henry at 2010-11-23 07:53:03 Reply
Ouch!
Is there any room for manoeuvre if you want to make changes to the product without having to start the regulatory steps all over? I mean suppose you want to change one resistor or the shape of the enclose or a different PCB? Could you even produce a version 2 without jumping through all the hoops again?
By dreamloverlabs at 2010-11-23 07:55:01 Reply
Can't change anything that's why this step was saved for last.

Then what you have done really takes balls of steel. :-)

Locked in polycarbonate.

LOL. Indeed!
Still I suppose the firmware allows some flexibility.

While I have found your 'journey to production' interesting, I am far from an electronics expert; consequently, do you know if these certifications will allow for import in to Canada?
By dreamloverlabs at 2010-11-24 20:35:12 Reply
No unfortunately Canada has different rules altogether, when we have cashflow we can spend money on trying to certify for other countries, and Canada is an easy target because the rules are partly compatible with US ones.

My partner introduced me to your site quite a while ago and we are both very eagerly awaiting the release of the DL2000 but reading the previous blog about Canada made me stop and gasp in horror to think that we may not be able to buy it in Australia. Please alleviate my stress by telling me that the DL2000 will be available for purchase to Australian residents?
By dreamloverlabs at 2010-11-25 03:10:17 Reply
Unfortunately we won't be able to ship to Australia because there are different rules there for product safety and electromagnetic emissions and compatibility.

Canada and Australia may not be too hard because the rules are *somewhat* compatible but at the very least we'll need to pay for more reports, worst case do more lab testing.

For the time being you can get a US mailbox and have them forward the product to you but if it gets blocked at customs or anything else happens we won't be able to help...

We'll do more reading and studying on this topic once we launch in the US/EU. Sorry for the bad news, unfortunately we don't make the rules just follow them :-(

Not able to ship to Australia?

I have a couple of Erostek 312s and also a 302-R 9the remote controleld one). I bought them in USA on line and there are no questions asked.

Are you in a situation where you must respond to Australian regulations even if you are not in Australia? I'd have thought the onus would be on the buyer. There are numerous electrical items in Australia taht are not available here, and as lond as they are not 'illegal' I don't believe there is a problem.

Can you a) expand on what I have asked and b) tel me who polices your overseas sales?
