Uplink application preliminary testing (closed)

We've filled the slots. Next step is to stress test the server. Following that we'll open up downloads for everyone.

We have polished up the DL Uplink application and it seems to be working fine through our main server.



You are able to log in without a DL2K-LINK in demo mode, and try the male management back-end as well as the device configuration interface.

Because we don't know how much server load this will create, and our host has quotas for processes, threads, memory and CPU we're first of all opening up download to 10 users to gauge how much server load per user will be generated (and see if we need a separate server for this or not).

If you want to try this out, please write us an e-mail (info at) stating your forums/blog username (password is not necessary). 10 users, first come first served.

The first 10 downloaders are kindly asked, when they finish playing around with the application's features, to click "connect" and remain connected to the internet for 24 hours or so, in order to assess server load.

If you can't keep this running for at least 24 hours please wait a bit until we finish this test.

After this test we will open up download for everyone.

As you know, this is a Windows only download.

One antivirus out of 19 may report Trojan.Win32.Alureon infection, this should be a false positive since symptoms include popup ads and we're not getting any, and don't have any other associated symptoms such as registry entries and so forth.

These AV companies are probably switching to pattern recognition rather than hand coded rules and so we'll see a lot more false positives in the future...

For Win XP users without all the .NET packages:

If you get "unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application"

download

"Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Redistributable Package"

That will fix it.

If this company is as good to deal with regarding the shipping product when we get there as it has been with regard to this preliminary test, we are in for a real treat.

Thanks for helping us find that Microsoft .NET quirk (WndProc wParam overflow on Vista 64 systems).

Future downloads are pretty much guaranteed to work on both 32 and 64 bit systems.
