Public info proposal

This is the kind of information we'd like to store about users, and connect to a specific hardware id... notice: no personal information, no "chat" records (too much traffic, the uplink doesn't allow chatting), just the usual social networking sort of info... male management style!

Don't see the need for ownership history (it wouldn't allow for temporary or provisional ownership and make having a short term owner look bad when looking for a new possibly full time owner as well as constantly remind the current owner of her predecessors) Unless the device owner could assign admin privileges without declaring them a owner

But don't have a problem with anything else there

Yes an owner can do that, that's what one should use for temp administrator, whereas assigning an owner to the device means you lose all rights to access the device, even locally on your PC, so it's a much more serious commitment.

I still think there is no need to show previous owners its kind of like having a ex girlfriends name tattooed on your back

But I like that you lose the right to access anything if you assign a owner for the male (as opposed to device owner) as long as if things go wrong the device owner can withdraw male ownership and take back control of the device.

Again the user names of previous owners would not be shown, only the pattern of usage of the grant/revoke functions.

Sort of like, if you knew a guy has married and divorced 11 times this past year you'd not marry him, and you don't need to know the names of the ex-wives to come to that conclusion :)

But putting something in there such as current administrators would be good so there couldn't be multiple administrators without the woman knowing about each other

sub3604 is right, there's no need for the ownership history (or it can be made optional). Additionally, there may be another caveat: the user may not want his current owner to know about the previous one(s).

Additionally, there needs to be an option to make the profile invisible to others.

Agreed about making the profile invisible, or at least the details. My owner will not want any information about her visible and my "training level" is between us and not a matter of record.

If you want a very good reason for invisibility/privacy, my owner has a very nasty stalker.

Showing the user names of previous owners is not what we had in mind, more like showing whether the male has previously assigned an owner and then revoked ownership unilaterally (without showing the owner names).

Again the "assignee owner" status is very high level you wouldn't use it with someone you don't trust very much; you can set permissions on any user at will and then revoke them, that wouldn't get stored.

The reason we thought of the assignee owner is that there's a discrepancy between the buyer of the product and the person who's going to have most rights on it, this is very much unlike normal permission schemes where the hardware owner is always the super-user.

Yes I understand that but don't see the need to show there has been a previous assigned owner and would certainly prefer that wasn't there imagine taking ownership of a male only to discover you are the 12th person to do so. (giving up full control even if it is only for a month or too would be fun.) There is no need for this information on the number of previous owners.
