Web management screen compatibility

2010-10-14 23:33:34 (5293 views)

Due to our size we can't guarantee compatibility with specific phones, but here's a link you can test:

http://www.dreamloverlabs.com/testajax/

If you see the number changing, and the "Blink" text appearing and disappearing every few seconds, it means your browser/phone supports all the javascript we'll need to use for the system to work bidirectionally (not only can the web management screen send commands to the DL2K-LINK but it can also receive status updates).

If it does NOT work, then you'll still be able to transmit, but not receive status updates. All major web browsers should work, so the question is primarily for phone users.

If you get any specific errors feel free to mail us a picture or post here a transcription of what your terminal is saying. If it works for a while and stops also let us know (some i-phone users reported this technique only worked for a minute or so). And if it does work why not post your phone and OS version below.

Problems on my Palm Pre running webOS 1.4.5.

The number does not change, and the word "blink" appears and disappears only after LONG periods of time. Much longer than when I access the page from Chrome 6.0.427.63 under Windows 7 on my PC.

Thanks

There are now three slots.

The changing number is displayed on #1 and #3, the blink indicator is on #2. Both slot 1 and 3 should be updated with new number every 5 seconds (using different techniques). Also every 5 seconds, the "display" status of the Blink label should change (5 seconds visible, 5 seconds not visible).

The Innerhtml button will set a string into the 3rd slot. If the button doesn't work the client-server ajax communication may be working (which is what's important here) so having no numbers in slots 1 and 3 may not be a problem.

The show last number button checks if a server message has actually been retrieved which is more important but requires the browser to process alert message boxes (not sure if PalmOS does it).

If the update occurs for the first few times and then stops it's not as big a deal as when it just never updates.

Works on the iPhone 3gs and iPhone 4

That's already better than expected :)

I'm also running WebOS. It works, but the timing is way off. It's not 5 seconds, that's for sure. Of course, I have tons of hacks installed so that may be part of the problem. It would be nice if somebody could check with a clean install of webos. I don't know what the other Palm user who responded has on their phone. It would probably be good to find out if it is a standard clean install or if it has patches and mods done to it.

iPhone 3G works with both Safari and Opera Mini. However, on Opera Mini, the innerText test sends a request (i.e. is not client-side only).

Nokia E71 works too, but the timing has nothing to do with the 5s. It's rather random, but always longer than 5s.

Works on the Sony ericsson x10 mini pro
By dreamloverlabs at 2010-10-15 23:29:04 Reply
The timing actually is set to increase with each ping; if the first update occurs within 5s, and the second 7s and so on then it's working as intended.

So for now timing aside it seems PalmOS is the only problematic OS?

The other thing is, do most people have unlimited bandwidth plans?
We're trying to limit the bandwidth but each request has an overhead.

If that's a problem we can have a button that stops server polling, you will still be able to remote control the device but not get any status messages (such as seeing what settings the user has for all the functions, and when the device is unplugged etc)

works on the Blackberry Bold 9700 firmware browser after clicking the show the last number button :)

Are you sure this will work on most browsers? I'm running ie8 on a windows 7 computer (i7 8g mem, etc.) and the blink works, but it takes up to a minute for it to change. Additionally, the numbers don't change once they appear.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding.

To anyone who didn't see the numbers changing (especially IE users), please clear your cache and reload.

Or to avoid clearing the cache, navigate to

http://www.dreamloverlabs.com/testajax/time.php, press F5, then back to

http://www.dreamloverlabs.com/testajax

The numbers should change this time.

Also, the interval was adjusted to 5 seconds with no auto increment, so the interval should be constant whatever it ends up being from your IP. Please report if it's anything above 10 seconds or nothing's changing at all...

it's working perfectly for me now on my Pre+. Note that the pre and pixi are WebOS, not PalmOS.
