DL Uplink application (continued)

2010-10-03 01:33:53 (6133 views)

Three types of firmware update processes created and integrated.

- update remote control firmware
- update receiver firmware
- update DL2K-LINK firmware

Leash mode functional.

Lots of help will need to be written.

Regarding the OS discussion it may be worth noting that once you have a windows based DL Uplink application running on the male's side, you can remote control the functions through the web with any OS and any browser (except advanced customization for now, which anyway requires some experimentation and would be too dangerous to attempt remotely). The "Windows only" portion of the product is the "uplink" which bridges server commands to the USB port.

Will the Leash mode works in the way that the male have to stay in the range to the USB Device or stay away from it? Or both modes possible?
By dreamloverlabs at 2010-10-04 03:02:56 Reply
The leash mode is a virtual leash: prevents the male from going too far away from the signal source.
By legolas_ger at 2010-10-05 04:08:31 Reply
OK... will there also be a "virtual fence" to stay away from the USB stick? ;)
By dreamloverlabs at 2010-10-05 08:19:20 Reply
No, sorry.
By fgordon at 2010-10-04 02:56:16 Reply
Is it possible to choose the level of "punishment" when leash mode is activated? Some may prefer a smaller level, or gradual increase, or even arousal impulses. After all, it would still be embarrassing to have your trousers "humming" in public.
I'm asking this because my wife is likely to make extensive use of the leash mode when we're going shopping to prevent me from wandering off, which is something I tend to do. Therefore, I would like to have at least the option of lesser zaps :)

That's why there are 3 strength values. When signal strength 1 is reached a low pulse is delivered every [grace period] ticks, strength 2 med pulse, strength 3 high pulse, out of range 3 high pulse every tick. It will be explained in the documentation.
By fgordon at 2010-10-05 01:25:25 Reply
Well, that's not exactly what I asked :) I asked whether it's possible to set arbitrary levels for what it will do for each range. E.g. level 1 for all ranges, including for no signal. Or, set levels 1 and 2 for ranges 1 and 2, arousal for range 3 and nothing for no signal etc.
By dreamloverlabs at 2010-10-05 08:19:08 Reply
Then just set RSSI2 and RSSI3 to zero. There will only be a level one pulse. Unless you go out of range, then level 3 hardcoded.

What about for a MAC... When will that be available
By dreamloverlabs at 2010-10-05 08:19:39 Reply
We don't plan on releasing a MAC version of the uplink application.
By metcons at 2010-10-05 08:36:22 Reply
hmmm... that's to bad... there are a lot of us MAC users out here. Been following this since you started and now I can't get one... :-(... Mistress will be very sad...
If I might suggest, maybe take a poll and see how many users you might lose by ruling out the Mac...
By dreamloverlabs at 2010-10-05 09:47:19 Reply
Less than 10%.

We cannot add any more complexity to this project or we might not get to see the end of it.

After a few months and consistent demand and so forth maybe we can reconsider.

For now, there ought to be ways to run a windows system on a mac through emulation or other means. Worst case get a used XP laptop to put at home and run the uplink app off of. Remember that you only need windows on the uplink computer.

Remote control can happen via the web (and for ex. through your local wifi). So if you have one networked XP laptop you can use your DL2K-LINK through a mac via the web interface, whether you're at home or away.

The grace period is displayed in units of ticks. It would be a lot easier to understand if it were displayed in units of seconds. So, instead of showing 5 ticks, it shows 2.4 seconds. I've spent years getting accustomed to how long a second is. But there are so many different ticks, it gets confusing.

RSSI = Remote Signal Strength Indicator? Really Solid Static Induction? Root Squared Sum Inverse?

While people posting and blogging here might be interested enough to be up to speed with what all these things are and mean, a lot of your customers wont be having a master's degree in engineering.

Now time for new ideas/features...

Allow for multiple leashes. Leash 1 - Going shopping or to the mall - I don't want him straying more than 15 feet or getting lost - ping source is remote. Leash 2 - Don't leave the house - stay within 50 feet - ping source is usb. Leash 3 - Tight confinement - stay within 1 foot - ping source usb. Leash 4 - Chase the dog - stay within 6 feet of the dog - ping source remote. etc etc. It'd be nice to have a pull down menu of the various leashes so we can switch from one to the other depending upon what I'm planning on doing.

I mentioned it before and will reask here, expanding the leash capabilities to permit series of bands would really be nice. For example...
Band 0 Signal Strength 0.. 15 = level 3 zap (out of range)
Band 1 Signal Strength 16.. 35 = level 2 zap (getting too far)
Band 2 Signal Strength 36.. 55 = level 1 zap (out of range warning)
Band 3 Signal Strength 56..150 = no zap (safe range)
Band 4 Signal Strength 151..160 = level 1 zap (too close warning)
Band 5 Signal Strength 161..180 = level 2 zap (getting too close)
Band 6 Signal Strength 181..999 = level 3 zap (too close)
This would allow a keep out/away feature by setting range for bands 0-2 to zero. It could also allow the leash to be set up where he wouldn't be able to tamper with the computer while it's active.

And for those who are concerned about this thing working only on windows, a possible solution would be to just get a cheap netbook computer. They have USB and wireless network. The benefit here is that it will also let him take it with him to work. As long as there's wireless access at his office, you'll still have web access to him. And you don't have to worry about putting any software or anything on a work computer.

I'm not sure how feasible it would be, but a really nice follow-on product would be a bluetooth adapter. Image the capabilities of being controlled via a cellphone app would add (think gps, text message control, etc).

To have that many options in a device that is for the most part used on the (honor system) not much in the way of security so if he would try to switch it off at the computer then why not just kill the bottom electrode as needed to ward off any shocks. As we wait for a final cost I keep in mind that it is very easy to defeat unless he is under constant watch. More of a novelty and a remote control deal when in sight than a true training device.

Is this comment a response to lizliz or a general comment on the features that are already implemented? Half of the people request more features, the other half complain about too many features. Can't make everyone happy :)

The leash mode actually has some in-built security. With no access to the admin screen, the male cannot disengage it. If he pulls out the DL2K-LINK he's really asking for trouble because no ping will be received and he'll get pulse level 3 each half second until the DL2K-LINK is reinserted.

Was a comment to liz but in all fairness a tamper evident sewing thread for some of the hard core users that want enforced compliance easy to skate around, it just isn't possible Like i said it is based on the honor system.

Terminology: All will be explained in the program's help and wording will be simplified as needed

Ideas for leash parameters: nice.

"Too close" pulses: not implemented at this time.

Cell phone: you can already use a cell phone with a browser to activate all the features. E-mail activation is something that would require only server side work. Bluetooth OTOH would slash battery life to a week or less.

I am new on 'Dream Lover'. Virtual leash:
I understand, that you cannot tell about the range distance between pc and DreamLover but can you tell something about the maximal range under optimal circumstances. I want to make sure that hubby can prepare a pot of coffee for me in the kitchen but not going out to buy cigarettes for his pleasure.

Greeting keep going on in your wonderful work

Xantia
