2010-03-19 23:09:11 (3430 views) There are no weekends at the labs. A new receiver plastic prototype is being produced with the mean looking machines you saw earlier, which incorporates some modifications to go from 95% waterproof to 100%. The o-ring groove and screw hole sizes have been enlarged, and the main cable hole dimensions changed.
Previous bugs (not enough vertical space for the battery connector, top half pushing against ESD diodes) have been worked out so this plastic prototype should not just enable us to get a 100% waterproof solution, but it should be the very final prototype before we go ahead with the plastic mold, and mass production. That will be very exciting as we'll finally see the glossy polycarbonate result!
The grommets and stars are being changed as well with some improvements (unfortunately this required new minimolds to be created...)
The remote control bugs (thickness, snap fit, LED holes) will also be fixed shortly and a prototype created. These are really minor things.
We hope to have waterproofing fixed within 3 days after which we'll get the following going:
- remote prototype
- overlays
- design of pad printing symbols for the keypad
At the same time we're going ahead with incorporation (last minute verification that payment processors won't create problems), software (wireless firmware upgrades) and more. The manufacturer is also working on the problematic "surprise" component which involves a complex "overmold" (hint hint hint)...
